Orpheos is an Alternative / Rock / Electronica Artist and music producer specializing in cutting edge mystical sound production. He writes, sings, plays all the instruments, records, mixes, and masters everything himself.
Bay Area producer Orpheos DeJournette stands poised to write the next chapter in a revelatory musical journey with the release of his debut LP, "The Mirror With No Reflection". An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, Orpheos first broke ground as co-founder of West Coast dance pioneers, Mephisto Odyssey, enjoying both popular and critical accolades long before electronic music had hit the mainstream. Now with "The Mirror With No Reflection" LP, Orpheos has delivered even more forward thinking music that is at once dark, powerful, beautifully melodic and utterly now - a stunning postmodern alternative-electronica LP for the passionate masses.
Captivated at an early age by Queen, Hendrix, and Bauhaus, Orpheos displayed a multifaceted ability to absorb influences into his own unique musical identity. It wasn’t until UK acid house landed on West Coast shores though, that the most profound epiphany occurred. "My jaw dropped", Orpheos notes of his first underground rave. "There was no social pressure, just people dancing and freaking out". This new dance culture spawned a communal, egalitarian environment that encouraged mutual respect, the sharing of ideas, and sonic experimentation on a level previously unknown to the young musician.
The impact was so strong that he immediately began producing tracks as one half of Mephisto Odyssey. Combining futuristic break beats, jazz, funk, and tripped-out atmospherics in a 21st century groove stew, Mephisto’s presence on the burgeoning scene was so potent that they became the first electronica act to be signed to Warner Bros. US.
After a string of seminal original productions made their mark on dance floors and in after-hours parties worldwide, the group was chosen to remix the Jane’s Addiction comeback single, "So What". The four Mephisto remixes charted on Billboard’s maxi-singles chart for six weeks and remain the only remixes ever sanctioned by Jane’s Addiction. A slew of remix work for Static-X, Los Amigos Invisibles, and Soul Coughing followed, and Mephisto tracks appeared in the full-length animated feature Batman Beyond: Return Of The Joker, MTV’s I Want A Famous Face and the Quentin Tarantino
produced Hostel.
Never one to remain content with past achievement, Orpheos amicably left Mephisto to begin work on his solo artist career. Four years in the making, the LP of his new material infused with shockingly original production work, as the producer has meticulously and single handedly written, produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered every song and created each sound and vocal from scratch while honing them into a stellar collection of songs that are at home both in the club and on the radio.
"The Mirror With No Reflection" LP possesses a sense of craft and an individuality sorely lacking in most contemporary music. That said, listeners will note hints of Massive Attack, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails and Pink Floyd supercharged with a groove-oriented attack that is immediately accessible, but, ultimately, unique to Orpheos alone.

"The Mirror With No Reflection" LP by Orpheos
Orpheos is a musical alchemist. Taking the dark rock heart of the 80s Goth scene, mixing in the beats and synths of 90s trip-hop and electronica, and mixing it all together into a big dub-infused whole, his debut solo LP is a fresh and exciting journey in sound.
The "The Mirror With No Reflection" LP may well be Orpheos DeJournette's first solo offering, but this is no novice. As a founding member of Mephisto Odyssey, Orpheos helped introduce the still alien sounds of rave and electronica to an enraptured West Coast audience.
Stretching back to 1993, Mephisto Odyssey were true pioneers of a sound that would ultimately sweep the country and the world. Their other-worldly releases soon got them attention and they became the first electronic group to sign to Warner Bros Records.
They remixed Jane Addiction’s classic ‘So What’ and went on to work with Soul Coughing, Los Amigos Invisbles and The Bassbin Twins to name but three. Orpheos was at the forefront of this success, but he yearned to try his hand at his own personal musical vision.
Inspired as much by his roots in the Goth scene and the glamour of David Bowie as he was by electronica pioneers DJ Shadow and Massive Attack, Orpheos began working on his own tracks four years ago. This LP is just the first taste of the amazing fruits of this labor.
Writing, singing, arranging, playing and producing every note of the four tracks on show on “The Mirror With No Reflection” Orpheos ably demonstrates his unique gifts.
You can hear the Gothic influences in the haunting vocal stylings of “On The Run” and “I Won’t Look Back”, while the funky breaks on “Kiss These Chains” would sound equally at home in a club as in the bedroom. There is a versatility here in just ten songs that some artists struggle to match throughout a whole career.
Yet, this is still a singular vision running through this record. It creates sonic landscapes as much alive as those of the great composers. As Orpheos himself acknowledges, he is almost a mere conduit for the music: “It’s as if the record made itself through me,” he says. “I really wish I had the ability to plan songs in advance but they seem to have a mind and spirit of their own.”
Modest as this may be, you will hear what he means on “The Mirror With No Reflection” LP. This is organic music that can only come from someone with a unique vision.
