Is
this where we began? Blear-eyed Friday mourning, sun a nuclear pock mark in the cyanide-open sky. The whispers of children, nimbly strapping on their automatic weapons. The cadaverous flutter of hope? Frail figure of Mother ghosted in cavernous doorways; Father on arthritic knee, praying to the poison in the waters of our wishing wells. The outside world is a mock-ghost town. Dust for streets. Piss for water. Shattered glass and broken dreams. Sigh of society, I consume therefore I am. Walking suits and miniskirts, plastic biological accessories, the cut-and-paste rebirth of beautification. Mask and veil, crook and flail. Artificial personalities. Empty shells pace their way to the brainfarms - churches and governments, racial zealots and violent idealists, the cults of personality, cultivating the minds of cattle, manimals, the Most Holy Moral Majority. Even black sheep run in herds. Do you have the courage to admit the obvious? This is organized hypocrisy. This thirst for extinction. This is our future, another day in dystopian Paradise. These are prime conditions for the birth of mass dissidence. This is Baghdad, California, and we are Ana Kefr, the vehement voice of dissent.
Formed mid-2008 as a religio-politico-vehicle of uninhibited, uncensored expression and art, Ana Kefr (Arabic, "I am Infidel") has always meant to stand for the odd woman or man out in the crowd, the true individual and freethinker, the contempt of the sheeple and awakened reason of the people. Brainchild of vocalist and keyboardist Rhiis Lopez, guitarists and backing vocalists Trent Pichel and Kyle Coughran, and percussionist Bryce Loeffler, AK have swiftly come to their own, performing with such acts as EXODUS, MY RUIN, INTO ETERNITY, SANGRE and MANTIC RITUAL, gaining a reputation and loyal following as they've carved their own unique mark within the contemporary music scene. With their edgy and often controversial lyrics, experimental approach to songwriting and devotion to individualism, standing out in the crowd has been effortless in a scene dominated by cheap imitation and sound-alike aspiration. The June '09 release of AK's debut album, "Volume 1," establishes a division long-since necessary - you are with the sheeple, or you are with the people. You are either for brutal honesty and change, or you are a part of the infestation of this Mad Hatter world, where the Religious Right and Islamofascists shout 'off with their heads!'
Join us in the Uprising, a mass movement utilizing art and civil disobedience to change a world trapped in a Guantanamo Bay interrogation room. Let us reclaim the right to be proud to be human. Fear is no longer an option, neither is inaction. The sleep of reason brings forth monsters, it has been said.
Let the heads roll.

ANA KEFR: New EPK, Behind-The-Scenes Film Posted Online - Mar. 12, 2009
Riverside, California-based philosophy-metal band ANA KEFR has posted an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) film titled "The Uprising", offering a glimpse into the group's confrontational and controversial message, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the making of its self-produced debut album, "Volume 1". The film was directed and edited by ANA KEFR lead vocalist and keyboardist Rhiis D. Lopez.
"Volume 1" was recorded and mastered at Dinky Music Recording Studios in Corona, California and features guest appearances by MY RUIN lead screamer Tairrie B and guitarist Mick Murphy, as well as Billie Stevens of HANDSOME DEVIL/WANK.
Commented Rhiis D. Lopez: "There is a really manic aspect to ANA KEFR — to both our music and the personalities behind the music as well. Lots of highs and lows. In creating the EPK for 'Volume 1', I really wanted to capture the swings from dark to light — from the moments that are just really intense, creepy or rocking, to the times when things are just downright hilarious. Though our fanbase does know that we are very outspoken on a lot of social, political and religious issues, I've felt that the time is long overdue to give a wider view of what exactly we have set out to represent, as well as to re-establish and confirm what has already been solidified. To us, we believe that music without a message is basically like a mindless human being, or a body without a heart. What we create is a representation of what is within us. I believe it is important to make clear exactly who we are and what message we're really putting out there. There should be no room for ambiguity."
In related news, ANA KEFR has also posted a special behind-the-scenes film edited by Mick Murphy showing the recording of "Step Back", a ROLLINS BAND cover song featuring Tairrie B on guest vocals and Mick Murphy on guitar duties. "Step Back" is a bonus track on "Volume 1", to be released through the group's own imprint label, Muse Sick Records, on June 1.
