Disease Within was formed in August 2008 by Mark Kopyc, the former drummer of the Bauls of Bengal DC. The Bauls had several record releases in the 80s and 90s and a substantial following through their live performances in the Washington DC region. Mark and Mic formed Disease Within on August 18, 2008, and went straight to the studio to produce an eleven-song debut CD “Killing Time”, in May 2009.

This new CD brings the Jazz influences of both Mic and Mark together with their love of classic Metal and Punk. It is filled with lyrics that provide a cynical take on today's society. Every listener seems to draw a different feel from the music. It has been most commonly compared to Tool, Corrosion of Conformity, Nirvana, Pantera, System of a Down, and Helmet... some have even called it Frank Zappa but heavier. Whatever it is it stays with you after you hear it, like a disease…something you can’t get out of your head.

Both Mic and Mark have extensive formal music training and many years of recording and live performances under their belts. This band is the pinnacle of those long musical careers. Their eleven-song debut CD, “Killing Time”, was written and recorded in the studio over approximately 120 hours, during the Fall/Winter 2008. “Killing Time” features Mark on bass, drums and backing vocals, and Mic on guitars, keyboards, samples and lead vocals. The CD was released on 1 May, 2009. After recording the CD Mic and Mark added Cody Hagins on bass to the permanent line up, beginning with support of their 2009 mini-tour.

Comments from West West Side Music, owned by the legendary Alan Douches with over 8000 CDs to their credit:

"Two other engineers have dropped in over the last couple days and everybody is pretty knocked out by your stuff. I've heard comparisons to Tool, Pantera, Nirvana, even Helmet...all of which are very cool."

"Anyway, I also want to say I really hear a lot of music, and your stuff is so honest I'm glad to have worked on it. More artists should be creating work that has meaning and passion as the main ingredients."

- Jamal Ruhe, Mix/Master Engineer

Comments from Swedish Extreme Metal Band (Ex-Cradle of Filth Members)

"We've been listening to the material and we think you have an interesting sound and a lot of integrity...it's a pretty wide range between the songs but I find that refreshing. I get a little bit 'My Dying Bride' vibe from time to time and that's a good sign"!

- Bizmark, Lead Guitarist Netherbird

Comments from DC area punk/alternative guitarist (early guitarist of Royal Truxx)

"I fiiiinnnnaaaallly listened to it last night and was much impressed. I think you're on to something there. It sounds not derivative at all. This new stuff sounds very well put together and didn't remind me of anything I'd heard before. So on a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it an 8, you’re going to Hollywood! This stuff is bad ass!!!!!"

- Jack Hannon, Recording Artist

“Most bands use a few pages out of the musical dictionary at most…and so many sound like one another…you guys used the whole dictionary and then some…the music is refreshing, raw, awesome. We want to start a revolution with your music.”

- Alan Douches, West West Side Music

"Dark, cynical, angry...a musical assault on all that plagues mankind. Nothing is sacred."

"An infusion of jazz overtones and ethereal tones into heavy driving guitar, with diverse vocalizations...you can hear the Maryland Doom, DC Hardcore, Metal, and other influences...reminds one of the Deftones or other bands that you just can't classify in a single genre with songs you can't get out of your head."

"This is a must have CD for those who understand what Hardcore was about and love the heavy, dark tones of Doom Metal."

"A perfect mix of talent, polish, experience, and creative chaos.”
