The Secret Of Successful Music Venues

by Dominic Donaldson
Have you ever wondered what makes a night out good? Is it the company, the food, the entertainment or the venues these events are held in? I often hear people talk about what a good venue one place is over another, and it can make all the difference to whether or not these people go to an event. I have seen my favourite band several times at a number of venues, and I can assure you that some places work better than others. This is brief guide to what makes a venue good.

Atmosphere is everything in a club whether it is for comedy or music. Some of my favourite places have been intimate and cosy places with low capacity. This lends venues an air of exclusiveness, and even if only fifty people have turned up for a night, it still looks like there has been a good turnout. The intimacy of these types of venues is often enhanced with warm tones from up lighting and soft furnishings. These places feel just as good when there are only a few people present as they do when packed with happy clubbers.

On the flip side, a super club that has capacity in the region of around 3,000 embraces a different type of atmosphere altogether. These venues are usually decorated for practicality. One colour easy to clean floor and walls stand up against the antics of throngs of weekly revellers. Decoration is left to lighting professionals who fill the air with lasers and strobes for visual entertainment with a difference. Venues such as these rely heavily on the crowd to produce a good atmosphere although they are technically the best equipped venues for gigs.

Temporary venues such as fairs and festivals offer a novel way of enjoying quality entertainment in an alternative atmosphere. The sheer scale of an event means that there are a wide variety of tents and stages to visit, and the open atmosphere means that a music area can rarely feel empty. The venue combined with the festival goers makes these types of gig a great success.

At the end of the day, finding a good venue for a music lover is all about the quality of the music and the people there. A gig that is able to balance these two factors and provide a pleasant place for people to party has found the secret of success.
