"Women of the 70's" and "Grind" featured on KALX's Next Big Thing show

Airplay on KDVS (UC Davis, 90.3 FM) and numerous podcasts.

Experimental indie rock with influences ranging from modern alternative and post-punk to late 70's Eno/Bowie and 60's film soundtracks, Retro Carnival's driving pulse, "wall of sound" production and keen experimentation create a sound that is edgy and unique. Athletic rhythms lay the foundation for an assembly line of guitar effects, processed voices, world percussion, synthesizer bursts, strings, horns, honks, pop culture bytes and a kitchen sink of random sounds. Unexpected momentum shifts, exploratory tangents and sonic surprises reward the listener with new discoveries on each rewind...

Featured on KALX's (UC Berkeley, 90.7 FM) Next Big Thing show (8/10), "Women of the 70's" charges along with grunge rock swagger, laced with 70's wahs and transistor radio blurbs - before launching into a funk guitar chorus layered with "groovy" vocal delays. Also featured on Next Big Thing, "Grind"s rootsy strums accent the pounding drums, breaking into an open-air chorus with soaring peaks. "Yeah" (airplay on KDVS) could be a mutant strain from Bowie's Low era, with its grungy, menacing verse shifting to a pulsating motif layered on a disco groove...and "Predicament," with a biting guitar line bursting into riveting keyboard echoes, may remind of a run-for-the-daylights segment of the latest crime-drama...

Whether it's the streets-of-San-Francisco intensity of "Retro SF," the desert odyssey of "Road Americana," or the outdoor 4th of July concert-with-the-beer-buddies sim of "Southern Fried," Retro Carnival goes for broke...and embraces the spirit of random discovery.
