The Sighting formed in late 2007 and included a group of friends that had previously played together in a band. The addition of Marc Gunjal on lead vocals completed the band line up. The band have played many venues around the Yorkshire area and also played at the Dogfest festival and supported McFly at Kirklees Party in the Park.
The bands sound is very unique and has many influences from each band member. With the composition and writing coming from several members each song is different and there is something for everyone’s taste.
Most of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 was spent writing and rehearsing new material and the band have received very positive and enthusiastic comments and plan to extend the fan base wider in 2009/10. The Sighting’s debut album “Running For Something” went live worldwide on iTunes, AmazonMP3, Napster, and eMusic in September 2008 and has received critical acclaim. The band have also had several tracks chosen to feature on the Wakefield Wildcats rugby club website and a music video to “Girl I Used To Know” was featured on the Bradford big screen.
When the band won a battle of the bands competition in 2009 and supported McFly, Ironic and The Yeah-You’s, this led to multiple gig requests and interest from the media and public. One request, after being seen at the Kirklees event, was to take part in a charity event on December 10th 2009 and The Sighting will be headlining the night. The Party in the Park event was the biggest event the band has played at, an estimated audience of 8000-10,000. The band were very grateful to be chosen for this, and a national promoter is now promoting us after hearing us at the event.
The future looks very positive for The Sighting and 2009/10 will see the band begin work on a second album and continue to play around the region. They also hope to play several festivals in the coming year.
