Defined by his distinctive piano-driven sound and poignant lyrics, Jon Li’s music stays with an audience long after he leaves the stage. A classically trained and seasoned musician, Jon has been a natural performer since a very young age.

After his alternative-rock band broke up during college, Jon began to focus on writing his own material while playing around on his piano and guitar. Inspired by the trials and relationships he and his friends had experienced, Jon soon created a catalogue of Pop-Rock songs and recorded his first EP, Moving Forward.

Jon translates the frustrations and joys of daily living into pounding rhythms and melodic vocals. His music draws listeners in by motivating them toward better places in life, relationships, and faith.

Known for his high-energy concerts, Jon’s performances electrify an audience with his ambitious, multi-genre sound. With influences ranging from Ben Folds to Radiohead, Jon is able to switch genres like he does instruments.

Well-established in the college music scene in the Twin Cities, Jon Li began the year at a residency at the Contemporary Music Center (CMC), an elite musician’s colony on Martha’s Vineyard. During these several months, Jon developed, recorded and performed songs that will likely appear on his forthcoming EP. Jon spent the summer of 2008 writing and arranging songs for the music department of Overseas Radio and Television (ORTV).

Currently back in the Twin Cities, Jon Li continues to write new original material and hone his skills as a composer, arranger and all-around musician. On the weekends can be found performing hundreds of requests and covers at your favorite local dueling piano and music venues. As Jon focus on his studies in his final year pursuing degrees math and music, Jon also works part-time as a contract musician for Bethel University's worship ministry and at local area churches.

For his most recent musical venture, Jon has assembled a 5-piece band (tentatively called the JON LI FIVE). With his newly-formed band, Jon plans to perform sets of both original and cover songs. In the mean time, he has plans to work with an independent producer, who recently discovered Jon's songwriting talents through MySpace, on recording some songs at the world-class Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN.

Press Release:   Jon li
"Like an Orphan" begins with an ivory (piano) stroll as the lyrics express emotions of a young adult wrestling with feelings of abandonment and being let down by his parents. You can feel the emotion of these lyrics with the crescendo of the piano and the power of the vocals as they express the pain that this young adult is going through.

"Moving On" is a beautiful piano piece. It is light-hearted yet questions why relationships dissolve, even when there is love ever present.

Story telling is Jon Li's forte'. He tells his stories through lyrics, through sound and through emotion. They are also representative of the versatility of his musical talents.

These three songs will be released on Myspace and Facebook and are set for radio play, along with the option to purchase, in early 2010. Please remember to connect with i-stores to purchase these and other songs of Jon Li.

Jon Li is scheduled to play the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on January 29, 2010. He is also looking to get some gigs set up for Los Angeles beginning in May, 2010.
