Self Titled LP by Tycoons
In this day and age many people would argue that there is no place in the fractured and divided world of music for simplicity. Gone are the days of rock and roll as an apt description for someone's music. If it can not be further categorized, and subsequently further categorized, then it isn't worth listening to. Quite frankly, that's bullshit.

Enter Tycoons, playing a sound that can only be called rock and roll. The type of music we grew up on. This is the stuff we all cut our teeth on musically. It doesn't have deep hidden messages. It doesn't have computers, or super layered studio tracks, or glowing skulls or spewing blood. What is does have is something more important. It has heart. It has the soul of rock still alive within it. It has the ability to be familiar without being old.

Cory M. Coons, front man and founding member, has witnessed some line up changes from the band's original inception in 1999. As with any band that has played the role of indie band for years, members tend to come and go, but as long as the core of the belief prevails, as long as the desire to get your music to the public continues to burn, the basics of the band will live on. This is how Tycoons has managed to survive the years.

With a sound that distinctly reminds me of Styx in it's prime, Tycoons makes me tap along to their catchy tunes every time I play it. The youth of today may feel that this sound has faded into the past, that Tycoons neither looks or feels "cool" enough to draw their attention, but if this is true they are missing out on some fantastic music. It may be viewed as a simplistic, nostalgic or old fashioned sound, but I prefer to think of it as the pure sound of rock and roll.

There is nothing wrong with many of the fractured sub-genres that exist today. I enjoy most of them immensely. Never forget, however, that before there could be sub-genres, there had to be the main genres. In the main genre of rock, a new band playing good old rock and roll the way Tycoons do will always win out over a gimmick.

As I believe someone was once quoted as singing, "It's only rock and roll, but I like it".

Biography: It all started back in 1999, when Cory M. Coons headed into the studio in Ottawa, Ontario with Recording Engineer Peter Gilroy to record a group of songs for what was originally to be just a recording project. Cory recruited his high school buddy, and former Fleshpaint/Ursa Major Drummer Kevin Eamon to help finish the project. There were a number of special guest musicians used during the recording process, such as guitarist Marc Muir, as well as some other very talented Ottawa and Cornwall area musicians to round things out.

With a nod to the past, and a sound that would remind us of such great rock legends like Bon Jovi, Styx, April Wine, REO Speedwagon, Rush and Triumph the album was complete. Then in late 1999, opening for David Wilcox at a club in Ottawa called "Straits", Cory and his band had struck a chord and Tycoons was born. Tycoons would rock to crowds throughout the St. Lawrence Seaway Valley circuit from 2000' through 2004'. And with the return of Kevin Eamon on drums after a brief absence, and the addition of Bass Player Francis Thibodeau, the band had fast become very popular and in high demand for the local club and festival circuit with it's highly energetic, "party rock" setlist of Classic/Southern Rock and original tunes. Always a crowd pleasing band,

Tycoons would keep its loyal followers in the mood for a great time rockin' their fans all night long! In mid-2004, the group took a short hiatus while Cory pursued a solo project of his own, along with good response and great radio exposure. Tycoons' many accomplishments include having the song "Round' the World" used as an instrumental song for world leading Canadian technology company "Ross Video", on a promo video for their new Synergy and Multi- Definition digital production switchers at the "NAB 04" Electronic Media Show held in Las Vegas, Nevada. And also a new deal has been announced for the 2007' line of Philips Electronics products to allow three Tycoons tracks, and one of Cory's solo tracks to be uploaded onto mp3 players and other forms of media products from Philips. This deal also includes a partnership with BenT Music in Toronto, an artistic company who helps with the promotion of independent artisits.

The Tycoons tracks that have been chosen to appear are: "Empty Grace", "Round the World" and "Rhythm Train", along with the song "Crumbs" from Cory's solo release. This deal will allow Tycoons' music to be loaded on the players and put into the hands of millions of targeted customers! So keep your eyes and ears peeled for Tycoons music on new Philips devices in 2007! In 2006/07', Cory, Kevin and Frank have recorded some new studio tracks for a new Tycoons E.p which was released this past year. The group has headlined and sold out live events including Clubs, Fairs and Festivals across Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec and Northern New York State in the past, and has also opened for some National touring acts in Canada, (i.e. David Wilcox & April Wine).

While in the summer of 06', Tycoons was on the bill with Canadian Pop Rockers "Glass Tiger" at the annual South Mountain Fair. Some fantastic words used to describe a Tycoons show by Co-ordinator Jim Shivas at this past year's Carleton University Pub Bash in Kemptville, Ontario were: "You guys are the best band we have had at our Carelton Bash in the last three years!!!". So you are going to want to catch this very melodic, newly-energized, & highly contagious rock & roll band band back in action near you at many various live events and festivals in Canada throughout 2007!
