Julie Ann Bertram releases debut full-length album, woe is me!
CD Launch party to be held in Toronto on Thursday September 27th
Toronto born Singer/Songwriter, Julie Ann Bertram needed to leave the big city in order to achieve her big dreams, one of which is the release of her full-length independent recording, woe is me.
To celebrate the release of this heartbreaking and hopeful album, she will be performing many of the songs on Thursday, September 27th at Stone’s Place- 1255 Queen St. W. in Toronto.
We will eat, drink and merrily commiserate after a days work from 6:30-9:30pm.
Julie Ann is currently accomplishing her other big dream, which is to build an eco-retreat for artists and city-dwellers, who sometimes need to get back to nature for inspiration. Leaving the rat race in Toronto she found that same inspiration, completing woe is me; after the birth of her daughter Linden and the jump from wild city life to life in the wilderness.
“Bertram’s stunning album spans the gamut of human relationships and the chaos they bring to one another and to the earth. With an ethereal yet commanding voice, Bertram’s folksy rock has already been compared to Bjork and Portishead, and she was
honored when someone compared her to Tom Waits. But the melodies and stories are clearly Canadian- I think of Joni Mitchell and Jane Siberry, two of my own idols. Still, Julie Ann Bertram’s on her own, evoking something of the goddess in other weird and spirited women, but weaving a unique history of her own into songwriting.”
Reviewer, Lorette C. Luzajic.

| Biography:
Julie left University to hitchhike along the west coast with a tent and guitar, finding solitude in the wilderness, and honing her artistry.
In home town Toronto, the fruits of this edification became apparent; winning two first-place medals for guitar composition from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Peel Music Festival), and the Sylvia Tyson Songwriting Scholarship (CMPA). She released her EP JAB, and was the top finalist in two popular competitions, the John Lennon Songwriting Competition and Lilith Fair’s Talent Search.
Touring Denmark, Julie found an eager audience in Copenhagen. Refreshed and inspired, this alternative folk-artist released Ecstatic Songs, an unusually beautiful project of music accompanying the poetry of 13th century mystic poet, Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. Recognition kept coming in, as top finalist in the Q107 Radio talent search, and the title of Best Acoustic Female Artist at the Toronto Independent Music Awards.
In 2006, Julie gave birth to her most beautiful projects yet- a third offering of music, woe is me, for release in Autumn 2007; and to her gorgeous daughter Linden!
She has been cited as an inspiration for several singer/songwriters, mesmerizing anyone who sees her perform. A gifted artist, with a stunning voice that firmly places her among Canada’s legendary line-up from Joni Mitchell to Jann Arden, Julie Ann Bertram is a quintessential artist.
Currently, she is building an eco-retreat for artists, with her family along the pristine
Sturgeon River in Northern Ontario.
