Award-winning Aboriginal Hip Hop/Rap artist Plex bridges gaps between dreams and dreamers with a little bit of H.O.P.E
Toronto – January 7, 2010 --- Alongside Canadian actress Jennifer Podemski, recording artist Plex brings his messages of unity, and conquering adversity, to another level in 2010. The H.O.P.E (Helping Our People Excel) tour will bring Canadian Aboriginal youth together by empowering them as a whole to make dreams come true with accessible education.
Through times of adversity, Plex has experience living with addiction and later turning his life around. Now, Plex wants to share his story, inspire and help youth understand that if he could do it then anyone can. Plex grew up in hardship and knows what it means to have hope. The H.O.P.E tour is a series of one day live showcases that brings together some of Canada’s top aboriginal celebrities and role models who are committed to Helping Our People Excel. Other celebrities committed to H.O.P.E include Adam Beach, Sarah Podemski, Tamara Podemski, Waneek Horn-Miller, Andrea Menard, Leemai Lafontaine and George Leach.
This one day incentive driven program is designed to empower aboriginal youth to realize their dreams and tap into their purpose and potential.
Focusing on skills development, H.O.P.E’s goal is to help youth discover their individual strengths, inform their career goals and encourage them to pursue an education in the coolest, most accessible and relatable format possible.
H.O.P.E is about giving youth permission to dream regardless of the circumstances they face in their lives. It is about accessing pure potential and harnessing traditional values that will help us all work towards a brighter tomorrow. The tour will embody live performances, talk shows, comedy, audience participation, multimedia and motivational presentations.
In addition to sharing his talent and inspirational messages through H.O.P.E, Plex has also translated his talent into winning the 2009 Best Hip Hop/Rap Song at the Indigenous Image Awards; two Canadian Aboriginal Music Award nominations, for Best Male Artist and Best Rap / Hip Hop Album; and five Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award nominations. |

Release: As an artist, Plex is dedicated to layering culturally relevant commentary on top of beats that beg his crowds to groove. Thought-provoking but never preaching, Plex’s lyrics challenge popular opinions and shed light on the truths that unite us all. Building on the same creative goals, Plex is producing two upcoming records through his label, New Leaf Entertainment, which also focuses on empowering youth to overcome their personal struggles, communicating with them through the language of hip hop.
Plex has performed on 300 stages across Canada and the US, and has made numerous appearances on TV programs, including MTV Cribs. He’s also the former host and producer of The Plex Show, a syndicated radio program that won the 2008 ImagineNative Film Festival's award for Best Arts and Entertainment Radio Program (presented by Astral Media).
Born and raised in the ghetto in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Plex is now the President and CEO of New Leaf Entertainment, a Toronto-based record and entertainment label powered by a collective vision to unite urban artists with the mainstream market.
