Since first forming from the breakup of Los Angeles based band Merge in 2004, Madlife has become a mighty force in the underground rock scene, while still staying true to themselves and fans by never crossing into the mainstream. After answering an ad the band had ran through the local media, vocalist “Angry Phill,” who had recently moved to LA from Toronto in order to pursue a fresh start in his musical career, joined forces with the original bassist, Isaiah the guitarist, and drummer from Merge.

The band broke into the rock scene that same year with their debut self-titled EP, produced by Stoker (former drummer for Dexy’s Midnight Runner and General Public), acclaimed for his work with Sting and Ice Cube. Madlife played the local circuit like kings and continued to develop their style and sound, all the while gaining in popularity. Their hard work with continuous songwriting and local performance paid off with the debut of their second EP Music as Harsh as the World We Live in, also produced by the mind of Stoker.

With the departure of their original bassist, the band hired Dustin Hunt, who joined the first national tour with Madlife in 2005 to promote their album. Flexing their muscle, the band launched a widely successful radio campaign, with airplay on over 30 commercial and 150 college radio stations nationwide.

Madlife recorded music for Sony International, NBC, Discovery, MTV, and other film and television shows while they began a search for new band members. In 2006 the band began their second national tour, as well beginning the filming for their video “I Want War.” Drummer and friend of the band, T.M Burr, as well as bassist Jimmy Minj, who had recently relocated from New York, joined the band.

2007 proved to be another successful year, as the guys in the group picked up endorsements from Ernie Ball and In-Tune Guitar Picks. They began another national tour to the Midwest and Southwest, and continued to whip out tracks for television and movies. But in sticking with their roots, Madlife worked their tails off recording their new album and playing local shows in between tours. The band’s name is a true testament to the lifestyles of those involved.

After gaining another endorsement, this time with Jagermeister, the band joined with former Dio drummer Robbi Black, and has since shared the stage with Marilyn Manson, Prong, Killswich Engage, Slayer, Bullet For My Valentine, Adema, Trivium, All The Remains, Metal Sanaz, Mary Magdalan, and several other huge acts. Madlife played the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival in 2009, and also managed to pick up a sponsorship from Monster Energy. Their newest album Angry Sonnets for the Soul, was released in 2010, and features heavy, yet catchy tracks “Be Tomorrow” and “Everyone.”

Without straying from their roots, this band has established major success outside of the typical record-label industry standard. The band’s melodramatic anthems with arena-ready melodies create a sound which highlights rock and roll at its finest. Madlife will always be the angry face of music.
