Complex is first word that comes to mind when considering Hollywood based Australian artist and producer gilli moon: songs of being a child by an all-woman chanteuse, a singular warrior over the industry who remains quietly sensitive, and a dynamic performance artist who paints as brilliantly as she sings.” – JeffBuckley.com
gilli moon is a Hollywood based Australian artist, who delivers conscious music, art and a brave sense of self-expression in her energetic, sensual and expressive performances and recordings.
gilli (pronounced as with a "J") is an illustrious poly-media artist, with multifaceted albums and dynamic live shows that have touched music lovers worldwide garnering high praise from the most jaded of critics. She is the quintessential renaissance woman, with a ceaseless contribution to the creative and artist communities at large. She creates music that is fresh, rebellious, passionate and unique. ITunes has been unable to classify her. She stands alone.
Her restless creativity and rebellious nature continually urge the artist to push the envelope when writing a song, recording in the studio, on stage, painting a canvas, or with whatever she touches.
Born in Milano Italy, and raised in Australia, gilli moon was brought up in a pioneering lifestyle on an isolated mountain property on the edge of wilderness. Her artistry is inspired by the isolating “Aussie bush" living a self-sufficient, alternative and pioneering life in a home built by her parents from the trees and stone on their land, solar power and natural resources.
Now living in Los Angeles, CA for the last 10 years, Gilli is forging an independent path before anyone knew what "indie" was. Through her own record label, Warrior Girl Music, gilli took on the music industry on her own terms and successfully produced and released 6 studio music albums, to critical acclaim, launched several artists' careers, placed an abundance of songs in film, TV and with other artists, and has performed around the world many times over. She has traversed the "wilderness" of the Indie world, where only the brave dare to go, and has conquered with unparalleled drive.
Her albums include "Girl In The Moon" (1998), "temperamental angel" (2001), "Woman" (2003), "extraOrdinary life" (2005) and "Skillz" (2009), the latter dedicated to empowering at-risk youth (released with L.A's celebrity spoken word/hip hop artist J.Walker).
Just out of the studio with her brand new (6th) album, "The Stillness", gilli plans to focus on performing, touring and marketing her new record, which truly and richly captures her essence, her passions, her lifelong yearning and mountain climbing (metaphorically speaking) and arriving, finally, at a place of serenity. This album shows the strength of her songwriting, her dynamic vocal range, and her joy for the piano. Lyrically the songs speak of arriving at a place of inner-ease and personal strength, of self-knowing and understanding. It talks of harmony, and peace (personal and world), of passion and prophesies, of harmony and conflict, of assurance and doubt, of love and loss... (the dual meanings of life and existence in this world that we all can't deny.) Ultimately, the new album takes the listener on a journey through gilli's love stories, life lessons and observations of the world.
Gilli has received numerous press for her courage, power and dynamic energy as an artist and inspiration for other artists, and has worked with other highly respected prominent artists including Simple Minds, Placido Domingo and Eric Idle (Monty Python). Recently she was interviewed in Newsweek Magazine as a pioneer and leader in the independent music business; been featured alongside Aimee Mann in discussing their mutual success in the indie music scene in Music Connection Magazine; and has had music at No. 1 on many internet and traditional radio stations. She is constantly featured in the media, online, and radio with her music and outstanding achievements.
gilli moon’s songwriting has proved strong for her career, being an international award winner. Some of her award credits include Song of the Year and others by the Benelux International Song & Culture Festival (The Netherlands); Best Popular Song by the Johnny Dennis Light Music Awards (Australian Guild of Screen Composers), Best Solo Artist (twice) at L.A’s Rock City Music Awards (winning over Aly McBeal's Vonda Shephard); nominated Best Female Singer/Songwriter by the Los Angeles Music Awards; and, honored as “Outstanding Contribution as an Artist” by Hollywood’s Artist For A Better World organization. Her label, Warrior Girl Music, was awarded “Indie Label of the Year 2003” by Philadelphia’s Independent Music Awards. In 05, extraOrdinary life, was finalist in the United States Independent Music Awards (judges included Melissa Ethridge, Norah Jones and Jonatha Brooke to name a few.)
Her songs have been featured in independent films and network U.S television programs worldwide, including Nickelodeon's "South Of Nowhere", the WB’s “Charmed”, the Disney Film "Rip Girls,” CBS' "That's Life" as well as many independent films and recorded by other artists including Dutch artist, Erikah Karst (Mercury/Universal), produced by David Kershenbaum (Tracy Chapman’s "Fast Car").
Also, in the last four years, gilli has been rising up the ranks as one of Los Angeles sought after female music producers. Gilli has a talent for taking a song from an idea to a fully produced, radio-ready song, and loves to produce full concept albums, not only for herself but for any artist of any music genre. Read about her producing here. She also created the compilation series Females On Fire and the Art Of Men, which provide a platform for independent artists to be showcased to the world, and celebrate over 150 female and male artists from around the world. More details here. A perpetual philanthropist, Gilli has created opportunities and avenues for artists worldwide through her non-profit songwriters organization, Songsalive!, plus has written two books about artistic entrepreneurial excellence, called "I AM A Professional Artist" and soon, "Just Get Out There" which are motivational handbooks for up and coming artists.
gilli is never separated from her "art". She has dedicated her entire life to the pursuit of excellence as an artist, both in music, visual arts (she's also a painter and often paints onstage with her band) and multimedia. She explores every aspect of the arts, as creator, writer, performer, and making it all come to life, as producer.
Her shows are highly energetic and powerful and she combines music, art, dance and little theatre into her show. gilli is truly a multi-dimensional experience. Her performance is full of action, her voice a tapestry of emotion and sensuality and her music an expression of pure raw emotion.
Moon describes her live show as an "emotional ride". "It's full of energy," Moon explained. "It's a combination of full-on rock: energy, action, and vibrant. Then it sort-of cuts to a complete silence: quiet ballads where I'm on the piano. Then it peaks again. It's very emotional and dynamic, but with a quirky and ironic sense of humour at the same time."
gilli moon is a unique, evocative and energetic artist and has a perpetual fire in her belly to purge her life stories and quest for truth through her music and art. Where 2010 takes her, can only be exciting and delicious, as she embarks in the marketing of her new album, "The Stillness".
gilli leaps empty handed into the void and enjoys the journey along the way.

The Stillness shows the strength of gilli moon’s songwriting, her dynamic vocal range, and joy for the piano. As a rare songwriter who “can take a song any place she wants… singing sweet whispers one minute, and screaming rock the next,” according to Music Connection, with
The Stillness, gilli moon exemplifies unparalleled growth and maturity in all facets of her being and art, from soulful songwriting, to impassioned vocal delivery to graceful and captivating piano compositions.
An astounding blend of soulful melodies, rich harmonies and cleverly crafted songs;
The Stillness is a brilliant continuation of gilli’s earlier albums, "Girl In The Moon" (1998), "temperamental angel" (2001), "Woman" (2003), "extraOrdinary life" (2005) and "Skillz" (2009), the latter dedicated to empowering at-risk youth and released with L.A's celebrity spoken word/hip hop artist J.Walker. The new album combines soothing piano work, soaring RnB-esque melodies, Pop beats not out of place on a Lily Allen record and a warm vocal presence that when drenched in gilli’s penchant for the artistic and the colorful, brings to life an album of grace, beauty and warmth.
The album’s defining moments include the soul-infused ‘Conversation With Me’, the beautiful and fantastically catchy ‘Outside In’ and the upbeat zeal of tracks like ‘I’m Alive’ and ‘I Am’, both of which could be placed quite comfortably next to Alanis Morrisette’s work, thanks largely to their fantastic choruses and clever instrumentation. But it's the title track, "The Stillness" that speaks her inate truth of riding the rollercoasters and finding inner truth and peace, paralleling the outward life of this multi-faceted artist, gilli moon.
JeffBuckley.com calls gilli moon, a multi-dimensional artist who also designed and painted her album cover artwork, “a dynamic performance artist who paints as brilliantly as she sings." Billboard, who states she “beat the odds,” at making it in the music industry after emigrating from the Australian wilderness to Los Angeles, and who Artists for a Better World called “a female Elton John,” gilli moon is not only a unique, evocative and energetic chanteuse, but also has become a beacon for artists worldwide, inspired and motivated by gilli’s story and her creativity. She is the creator of Songsalive!®, the 16,000 international member-strong songwriter and composer non-profit organization, as well as the producer, through her label Warrior Girl Music of artist albums and compilations, which provide a platform for independent artists to be heard.
gilli moon's prolific output lead Newsweek Magazine, in an article about successful DIY singer/songwriters, to state, “For artists like gilli moon, penning pensive ballads in her living room using nothing more than high-tech tools and good business sense, they also represent a viable path to success.”
gilli is also winner of numerous international awards, including Song of the Year by the Benelux International Song & Culture Festival; Best Popular Song by the Johnny Dennis Light Music Awards (Australian Guild of Screen Composers), Best Solo Artist (twice) at L.A’s Rock City Music Awards, and, honored as “Outstanding Contribution as an Artist” by Artists For A Better World organization. gilli’s songs have also been featured internationally in independent films and television programs, including Nickelodeon, The WB, Disney, and CBS.
Polymedia (not just a pianist, songwriter and singer, but also a visual artist, painter, and author), highly gifted and incredibly talented; gilli moon’s music blurs boundaries and pushes her listener while keeping them encased in attractive melodies and a continual stream of brilliant tracks. Be you a lover of RnB, Pop or Soul; chances are you’re going to adore what gilli moon has to offer.
