Day Old Funk CD "Year at the Beach" is a glorious compilation of songs
Monday, 09 May 2011
Redefining the Fall River scene, “Day Old Funk” started in a basement with its two original and current members, Aaron Correira and Jesse Copley. In 2002, shortly after graduating from high school, what was once just a musical hobby for the duo became a small time career. Their music is heavily influenced by bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pearl Jam. They were set to start making music, but one thing was missing, another band mate. So in 2005, Todd Langlois joined the mix. With Jesse on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Aaron on bass, light percussion and vocals, Todd on lead guitar, percussion, and back-up vocals. The band could now focus on their song-writing and playing. For three years they bounced around from basement to basement working on their strong harmony based originals. In 2010, the boys picked up "the beat machine" Steve Lennon, who has brought the beats to every show.
The group has completed their first album titled Year at the Beach. Their hard work was relesed on September 30, 2010. The CD was produced and mixed by John Mailloux of Bongo Beach Productions, known for his work with artist such as Dispatch, State Radio and Sugar Ray. The album includes 11 all original songs and a bonus track. The band’s aspiration is not to make it big, but to make the best music they possibly can.

Day Old Funk CD "Year at the Beach" is a glorious compilation of songs
Their latest single "Squeeze Me" is a wonderful feel good song about two individuals finding their comfort zone together and rejoicing of this glorious accomplishment.
Day Old Funk
Day Old Funk originated back in 2002 with founders Aaron Correira and Jesse Copley. Still trying to define their sound, Aaron and Jesse brought in Todd Langlois in 2005. For years they were working on their style and bounced around from basement to basement. In 2010 Steve Lennon joined the band. Members include Aaron (bass/percussion/vocals), Jesse (rhythm guitar/lead vocals), Todd (lead guitar/percussion/back-up vocals) and Steve (drums). With their sound fully developed, the band began to record and completed their debut CD “Year at the Beach” in 2010 and has received great reviews ever since.
“Year at the Beach” is full of songs that have special meaning to the band. It was derived from the past year that they spent with their producer John Mailoux at Bongo Beach Productions. Their stories range from family tragedies to triumphs. Day Old Funk took their experiences, put them into words and graced us with their musical versions. Songs such as “Song for Him”, “Heritage Heights” are highlights. But one song in particular, the CD’s lead single, “Squeeze Me” stand out.
“Squeeze Me” was written for Aaron’s girlfriend. It’s a song about finding a relationship where you find a level of comfort and understanding with that other person -that special someone where you can let your guard down and just be you. This song begins with a glorious acoustic introduction followed by crisp and sharp vocals that describe his girlfriend. Harmonies take this song up a few notches, creating a total delight. This song is soft, and oh, so sweet. In as far as ballads are concerned, this one is the one to beat. This lead single will grab you and keep you there.
“Year at the Beach” is full of a wonderful plethora of songs ranging from foot stompin’, hand clapping, dancing, great pop songs to ballads, all with out-of-the-box harmonies and acoustic guitar playing and absolutely top notch arrangements.
Their first original show was a taste of New York City for the David vs. Goliath Music Festival. It was a perfect first time experience. They’ve also played from Boston, Massachusetts to New Jersey, Rhode Island and other places in between.
