The band, consisting of one American and four Canadian members is headed by Dan Luka on Lead Vocals and Guitar and backed up by Nicky James on piano, Ben Labelle on Guitar, Dom Cright on Drums and Jason Ollivierre on Bass and Backing Vocals. Produced by platinum-certified record producer John Nathaniel the band has already achieved Major radio airplay in Montreal, playing on rotation on the city’s top English music station Virgin Radio 96 as well as several other stations across Canada and the US and even reaching radio airwaves as far away as the Philippines.
Founded after pianist Nicky James and singer/guitarist Dan Luka met by chance through the online video platform YouTube, the debut album "What A Scene" is a melodic journey through the lives of two friends who grew up on opposite sides of the world. "Singing these songs feels like singing from my diary" explains Luka, "All of these songs deal with something very personal that either me or Nicky or one of our friends has gone through". The album closer "Eternal Smile" for example is a song written by Luka for somebody close to him who had just recently lost her best friend. "I still get the chills every time I play that song", he explains. Other songs, such as the title track "What A Scene" describe the feelings of Nicky James shortly after his young marriage ended abruptly. "You learn a lot about yourself in a time like that and about how little you know about the world. It hits like a freight train" he says.
With their strong online presence (Over 250.000 views on Youtube) and growing fan base the band is gaining more and more attention, playing shows in Eastern Canada and most recently having played in Austin, Texas. Long Story Short is currently preparing a Deluxe edition of their debut album “What A Scene”, which will include two all-new, exclusive tracks for their fans to enjoy.
