West Palm Beach, FL (02/03/08) –Until recently, Chris Bates has concentrated on the performance of cover songs which span multiple genres and decades. Chris has been impressing audiences for years with his polished vocals that often sound like the original artist. Now he’s heading in a new direction. Bates will be producing and engineering his own original compositions.
Chris is from Oyster Bay, NY - the hometown of another artist with wide range of musical skills – Billy Joel. For Chris, his journey in music started out at age twelve, when he started learning guitar to impress a girl. At age 14 he began a band, which holds the distinction of being the first band to play Rock and Roll live on FM radio! (WFUV-FM, New York in 1965) He began performing professionally in 1973, and since has remained an independent artist. Songwriting is nothing new for Chris; he has won awards in many songwriting contests, including several from the American Song Festival.
In his upcoming CD, "Power Walking in the Mall", Bates will take his own songs all the way from their conception to finished product. “Last Call”, which will be on the new project, is a smooth jazzy experience and full of moody and flavorful lyrics. “Half a Heartbeat Away” shows that Chris can compose a great adult contemporary piece and display the influence Motown standards have had on him.
Undoubtedly, Chris Bates can compose, and his production on these two early tracks shows the pure potential that Power Walking in the Mall will have when it is released in June, 2008. Power Walking in the Mall will be a new creative apex for Bates, bringing together the songwriting and producing skills he’s honed over the years. With his palette of talent, he’s “Half a Heartbeat Away” from making it big! The CD will be available for purchase on his MySpace site at:

Currently Chris entertains as a one man band, at some of the best known hotels and restaurants in Palm Beach County, as well as many private and parties and corporate functions.
