What are your goals as an artist?
To inspire people, to reflect the changing, universal trends, to make art that changes peoples lives and helps them define themselves. To share a sense of aliveness with people – an appreciation of life, with all of its quirks...

How do you expect to get out there?
I think distribution of this album, The Open Road, would be great, but I think it'd have to be aligned with some sort of big placement(s) in tv/film/compilation cd/etc. If people hear this music in a legitimate context, they will buy it – it's just a matter of getting them to hear it and, as you said, it's hard to break a new artist. I really see my song 'Pretender' as a theme song for a tv show. Or 'The Open Road' should be played during the credits or highlight scene of a big movie – the song would really work for that sort of thing; I also think that getting other established artists to cut some of my songs would be great.

What do you think you need to stay in there?
There are some things you never forget and one of them was the time that Prince told me 'you will need all of the strength it takes to get to top, to stay there.' A lot of people are ruined by their sense of self-destruction. Sometimes I think it's a reflection of the world, and then at other times I think it's just the wrong perspective (that's normally when I feel like I'm in love). It has taken me a while to get to this point . . . . ready to be an artist, but here I am, that's all I can say.

What is your personal style?
I see this album, The Open Road, as similar to Carole Kings' 'Tapestry'. It's very rich and very dense – almost of a different vibration than a lot of the stuff you see out there today. As far as my appearance, I often say that I'm 'getting younger' – I think your mental state really affects the way you look and I find that I look better and find more of my personal style as I get older. If I had to compare my image to a character in a movie, it would be Patricia Arquette in Stigmata. I am definitely a strong, intelligent, spiritual woman.

How do you express that style as being your own and unique?
People, whether they're friends or fans, don't forget me . . . I am unique. My music is about the fact that I'm figuring out who I am . . . . and people can join me on that journey if they like. I'm consistently connected to trends before they happen – whether they are in art, fashion, music, politics, etc. – and I enjoy reflecting those changes in my art/lifestyle/etc. I love change because it reflects growth and growth is what we live for - fulfillment. Part of my style is creating a lot of good content, consistently. I do a lot of things myself – so this has allowed me to be this way so far.

How long have you been in New York?
I moved here in 2004 after living in Nashville for a few years. I'm originally from Kansas City and there is a good music scene there . . . but I prefer Nashville or New York for now. There are a lot of opportunities here - I'm trying to take advantage of them.

Biography: Molly Magdalain is a trend setter and a visionary artist. Often inspired by media, architecture, physics, politics and people . . . . Magdalain views life with the eye of a painter. No-thing is really how it seems . . . and everything is beautiful if you look at it the right way. She combines the grace of a powerful intellect with the raciness of universality. Life is all about art – art is spirit manifested in the world. A shamanic priestess, reiki master and world champion equestrienne, she has her hands in just about ‘everything’.

Her most recent project is StarStrings by Molly Magdalain – unique jewelry art made out of guitar string and other recycled elements – www.starstrings.com. She knows a lot about the most unusual gemstones on the planet and has experienced, firsthand, the idiosyncrasies of people and their fashion as it morphs to reflect their personality and choices. After moving from Nashville to New York in 2004, Magdalain has collaborated with some of the greatest artists in the music business to make meaningful creations out of their used guitar strings.

If asked what she loves most, she would say ‘spirit and meaning’. That is the thing that makes us all tick . . . . The thing that makes random events meaningful and life worth living. Her original songs are now making their way out into the mainstream market. She hopes to follow in the footsteps of great songwriters such as Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Patty Griffin . . . .to help people understand and deal with their lives in the way that so many great writers have already done for her. Music makes life magical and Molly Magdalain is, first and foremost, a musician. Visit www.mollymagdalain.com

Description: If Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell had a threesome with Bob Dylan, it would sound like Molly Magdalain. Her music is rich and dense, powerful and emotional. It needs to be heard.
