A record that any lover of melodic pop-rock will drool over.
OnTap Magazine (www.ontaponline.com)
“Drowning Out the Television” is clearly an achievement for Honor By August&This album sounds ready for modern rock radio in just about every aspect.
All Ages Zine (www.allageszine.com)
Right from the beginning of the album, “Only In Photographs” there was something special about this band and it never let up through the 10 tracks that make up “Drowning Out The Television.”
Musically this is a combination of genres ranging from singer/songwriter to adult alt. This is a pretty solid album that should be able to capture the late 20 something crowd.
One of my favorite albums as of late and I can’t wait until the weather gets a little warmer so I can roll down my windows and crank this one up.
This is Modern (www.thisismodern.net)
Honor By August, with their debut album 'Drowning Out The Television', fit the mold of a true alt-rock band, without the flashiness or the copycat style of many new bands that come and go.
They are sure to have true staying power, and wow a lot of critics and fans, if they stick to what they are already doing so great. The band delivers a strong mix of well-written and performed rock music, the likes of which we have seen from superstar bands.
Produced by Ted Comerford (Virginia Coalition, The Argument, Zox) and mixed by Jeff Juliano (Lifehouse, Jason Mraz, O.A.R.), the album features some of the best songs by an indepen-tent rock band. 'Only In Photographs', the disc's first and best track, features honest lyrics and superb pop-rock instrumentation.
This debut is sure to be the album that generates a huge buzz and a long musical career for these guys, the same way many bands in their similar vein have done in the past.
Rock is Life (www.rock-is-life.com)
Great vocals and songwriting.
“Only in Photographs” delivers some great harmonized vocal choruses and pleasing acoustic guitar tones. “Opportunity” recalls a strong R.E.M. influence, with more energy and emotion. “Overnight” has a nice bounce to it, as drums and guitars jockey for dominance. Vocalist Michael Pearsall deliv-ers his best performance on the moving power ballad “Honesty.” “The Quite Sky” starts off subtle and mellow, but builds to a powerful chorus.
East Coast Romper (www.ecromper.com)
I can see why these guys are poised to become more than just regional favorites&Get ahead of the mainstream herd and check out Honor By August
