Symphonic Slam, PKA Timo Laine
Timo, the group's founder, over the years, has become known for his masterful guitar and guitar synthesizer styles. Timo released a ground breaking album with A&M Records worldwide in the early years of his career. The recording ended up as being the first major guitar synthesizer work. The album was called "Symphonic Slam". What Timo had done was hook up six separate synthesizers to his Les paul guitar. Each string had its own synth that could be set up separately. The guitar was played thru regular amplifiers, but the synthesizers were pumped thru a wall speakers
and all blended together. The amazing wall of sound that came from that setup was beyond your wildest dreams.
The cd is now available here at
www.timolainemusic.com and CD Baby.
Timo has performed with acts such as the Rolling Stones, BB King, Tina Turner, Rush, Chuck Berry, and many other major artists to name a few.
On Timo's CD "Her Fire," Les Carlsen, former lead man for the musical "Hair" and more recently, "Bloodgood", compliments the group on many of the tunes. Noe Cruz, Timo's bass man since the early years, performs with an aggressive edge on this work. Noe replaced Jimmy Haslip, during the production of the SSII album in the eighties. Jimmy, since then, went on to form the group Yellow Jackets. Bob Winn plays the Roland V-drums on Her Fire. Guest artists include: Mike Meucci, Mark Vaughn, Dennis Brown, and Larry Class.
Musea Records acquired the rights from Universal Records to re-issue the first Symphonic Slam album CD worldwide in 2002.
On this site, we are offering all three releases: Symphonic Slam, Her Fire, and Monotrim Project. Symphonic Slam is currently working on a new project to be announced at a later date.
Timo Laine was born in Oulu, Finland. His family immigrated to America in the fifties. After learning a new language, Timo developed a keen interest in music at an early age.
Timo began playing the guitar after losing interest in the piano at about the age of twelve. His earliest guitar heroes were Wes Montgomery, Andres Segovia, Kenny Berrel,
Dick Dale, The Ventures, and the bands of the surf era.
During his late high school years, Timo was hired as a guitar teacher at a local music store. Timo kept his teaching position until he was old enough to play clubs.
During his college years, Timo played the clubs as often as possible. After his third year of art school, Timo decided that
music was his future. He quit college and started to perform in the club scene full time. He put together a cover band with his old friend and bass player Noe Cruz. The band went through various names such as Zebra, The Space Rangers, and a few others for nearly eleven years.
During those years he made many attempts to break into the recording industry, and
numerous attempts failed to get a decent record deal. Timo did not get his break until
he ventured off to Canada with a newly formed band called Symphonic Slam. In Canada, Timo's band was discovered by A&M Records, who signed them up for an international release of Symphonic Slam.
