Jenny Dalton taught herself how
to play the piano at a young age after she fell in love with the
instrument at a neighbor's house. She began writing songs on a
Casio synthesizer when she was 7 years old and continued onto
the ivories when her parents bought her a parlor piano at age 9.
Always an appreciator of sub-culture pop, her influences come
from the black chords and sonic layers of favorite artists like
The Smiths, The Cure, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Peter Murphy,
Kristen Hersh and more.
She self-produced and engineered her first, unreleased record
project entitled Uncharted. Dalton then took her songs
to small stages in her hometown, Minneapolis, MN. Fueled by
creative motivation, she founded independent record label,
Glossy Shoebox Productions and began self-producing on her debut
release, Fleur de Lily (2006). Most songs on Fleur
de Lily were inspired by her relationship with a soldier
who was deployed to the war in Iraq.
In collaboration with producers and DJs from Germany,
England, Greece and the US, Jenny Dalton's current project,
Carbon Lily Remixes (2007), is a collection of club remixes
of songs from Fleur de Lily. She is also in the studio working
on her next project to be released in 2008
Happy Holidays! I have much to be smitten about as 2007 closes. Among
the year's highlights, I worked with international producers on the new
Carbon Lily Remixes CD, with renowned videographer Justin Staggs on the
Cadence vs Hugo Varvoglis music video, and I am completing my next
studio CD called "Rusalka's Umbrella" to release in 2008. My record
label, Glossy Shoebox, is also branching into multi-media projects
including the new podcast series and a possible poetry book on the
horizon.
New Winter Song! My Gift to You:
Sometimes I'm struck with inspiration to write & record a song on the
same day - in podcast episode 3, I talk about what inspired this new
winter song which is my gift to you! Feel free to download it, spin it,
post it, and spread the love (high res flac file upon request).
I've created some artwork to go with the song lyrics. Disclaimer: I'm a
terrible artist, but I think it's fun to do anyway. In this drawing,
the bell symbolizes the sound of winter as well as the nightingale's
glass cage, and the bell clapper is a pomegranate seed which represents
Persephone's winter descent into the underworld. Signed gift items with
this drawing are at The Boutique for a short time.
